Dear Reader,
We’ve seen a massive 1200 point swing in the markets today…
The 10-year is pushing steadily higher toward 4%.
The consumer price index increased 0.4% for the month of September.
And, on an annual basis, inflation is up 8.2%.
So indications are that inflation is probably going to be heading higher, which means we are likely to get at least one more rake hike in November.
Keep in mind that in a normal market, the market gets a push when the 10-year rate rises. Generally, that means money is coming out of the bond market and getting pushed into the stock market.
However, with high inflation, an inverted yield curve, and the beginnings of a real estate pullback…
We would expect to see the stock respond negatively to higher 10-year yields – like I pointed out last week.
But the Dow is up over 1200 points!
I think it’s fair to say that the markets are irrational to say the very best. Manipulated at the worst.
The good news is I have seen it all over my 40+ years working in and around the financial markets.
History doesn’t repeat, but – as they say – it does rhyme.
